A Brief History of Mother's Day Mother’s Day as we know it goes back only 108 years to 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. Anna Jarvis, who was determined to create a day to honor her mother and all mothers, started the tradition after her own mother passed. Anna gave out carnations to her fellow congregation members in the early days of the holiday. The popularity grew in her own hometown and spread, leading Anna to write to congressmen urging them to make the day official. While Mother’s Day does have it’s roots in flowers through Anna’s carnations, motherhood goes hand-in-hand with the themes of spring: Life; Fertility; Beauty. But the most important reason we give flowers on Mother’s Day is because moms love flowers! Best Flowers Tulips are arguably one of the most popular flowers in the world. In the spring, even more so! Each tulip color has its own meaning, which you can read more about here. They are a staple and many people cannot imagine their home or garden without a tulip this time of year. Luckily, we sell both the fresh-cut and bulb plant versions!
When to Order Early is always best. Especially if you have a specific flower or arrangement in mind. We can special order many things for next-day or two-day shipping into the store, like tropicals or other novelties that are not in our cooler daily. The spring staples and our typical year-round flower assortment, we will definitely have available. Other Gifts
