Flower Care

Choosing an arrangement or having one delivered to you is just the beginning of your floral journey. Once home, you will want to be sure that they thrive for as long as possible. While we take great pride in having exceptional flowers with a long vase life, there are still a few steps that you can take to extend the life of your arrangements.

Cutting the Stems

If in a wrapped bouquet or loose stems, the first thing you will want to do is re-cut the stems. After more than a few minutes out of the water, the cut flowers will be wanting more water. To ensure that they get a nice, deep drink, cut the stems at a 45-degree angle. Being cut at an angle will also ensure that the stem won’t sit directly against the vase and more surface area will be exposed.

Removing the Leaves

After you trim the stems of your flowers, remove any leaves that will drop below the waterline of your vase. Leaves in the water can promote bacteria growth that may prematurely kill or wilt the flowers. If the water starts to become cloudy or starts to smell, you most likely have a buildup of bacteria. This has an easy fix! Remove the flowers, wash off the stems, clean the vase, refill with clean water, and trim the stems before putting them back in.

Filling the Vase and Changing the Water

Cool, almost lukewarm water is best for fresh flowers. Changing the water regularly (every few days or as often as you remember) will enhance the life, quality, and longevity of your arrangement.

Feeding your Flowers

All of our arrangements are made and delivered in water that has flower food mixed in. Wrapped bouquets or loose flowers will have a packet of flower food sent with them. Using flower food will help extend the life of your arrangement.

Displaying your Arrangement

Now that you have this gorgeous arrangement, you’ll need to choose a spot in your home to put it on display. The best rule of thumb is to keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight. Depending on the type of arrangement you received, you may want it on your dining table, nightstand, or kitchen counter.
