Everything you need to know a-"bout" Boutonnieres

Wedding and Homecoming season are almost upon us! And in the spirit of the season, here is everything you need to know about boutonnieres from Bloomin' Wild.
Boutonnieres are a classic piece for many special events - proms, dances, weddings, funerals, or birthdays. They can be a simple accent to the larger event or they can make a statement. The traditional style will be around for a very long time, and rightly so - it is just a perfect touch of florals! Some have even ventured to the stand-out arrangement of a floral pocket square.

Boutonnieres at Bloomin’ Wild have a focal bloom, filler flowers, and some greenery as a base. Custom boutonnieres may need one large focal bloom (like an orchid) or no focal bloom at all (wildflower-style). We can do larger boutonnieres to make a larger statement as well as child-size ones (like the one Toby wore for his Easter photo shoot last year). Boutonnieres for children under 8 or 9 have safety pins instead of the traditional pins.

How to Correctly Pin a Boutonniere

wikiHow has a great demonstration for pinning a boutonniere to a lapel, dress shirt, a dress, and in a buttonhole.
Boutonnieres from Bloomin' Wild will come with two pins.
First, find the spot on your left lapel or left side of your shirt/vest where the boutonniere looks best. The easiest way to find this spot is to put your hand over your heart as if you were saying the pledge of allegiance. The spot your middle and ring fingers land on is just about the right place.

Slightly flip open the lapel or go on the inside of your shirt/vest. Insert the first pin through the fabric, through the boutonniere, and the back through the fabric.

Do the same with the second pin, but at a different angle. This will give your boutonniere more stability.

What if I don't want a traditional boutonniere?

You do not have to go the traditional route if you do not want to!

A slightly different take could be what your boutonniere is made in. Shotgun shells are popular in our area and online we've seen mini lightsabers.
You can also add items to it, like legopeople or other items that match your theme/style.
For another floral option, you could try the "pocket-niere." This would set inside your tux or jacket pocket as a floral display.
For a non-floral option, you could take ideas from your theme (if you have one). A nautical theme could call for a starfish or shells pinned to the jacket. A Google search also brings up family heirlooms and small portraits pinned to grooms and groomsmen.
We can always assist with making a special item functional as a boutonniere, if you need.
